Tamara, Kevin, Matt, and Chris,
I was so sad to hear about the loss of Nicholas. Having the opportunity to have Nicholas in my third grade class was a true blessing. Nicholas went out of his way to help others. No one was ever mistreated when he was around. If there was another student not being included,
Nicholas would leave the group and do something with that person. Others learned if you played with Nicholas, you played with everybody. We are all better individuals to have had Nicholas touch our lives. The world is a better world because of him. May you all feel God's
love and comfort now and in the months to come.

I was Nicholas' math teacher during his junior year. He was such an intelligent, loving young man. Always there for his fellow students who needed him to lend an ear or help with a math problem. Such a tragic loss! Sending prayers and condolences for your family during this terrible time. May you feel the comforting embrace of Jesus as you mourn.

Please know Nick and your family have been in my prayers and thoughts since hearing of his loss. I thought so highly of Nick. His kindness, intelligence and ability to make you feel special is rare today. I had not seen or talked to him since graduation and was surprised by a call from him last Saturday. He left the nicest five minute voice mail. Although we did not speak, I texted him to which he replied. I am thankful for that call from him. You will continue to be in my prayers.

Our heartfelt love to you all. This is a good day to have behind you somewhat like a bandaid on a raw wound the pain will still be there but not quite so raw and the start of moving on one step or breath at a time, whichever you can manage. Just know you are greatly loved and there will be a time in the future when you can think about Nicholas and remember all the great memories without the brutal pain you have now. Jyst try and breathe, be gentle on yourselves and allow others to help with practical stuff as you would them. XX

I had the pleasure of living in the same hall as Nick at Lsu, just a couple doors down. I was fortunate enough to have grabbed lunch with him a couple times, and speak to him every now and again as we passed eachother in the hall. I remember him telling me stories about highschool at Hammond High as we ate lunch together one time. Nick was a very kind kid and had a genuine heart. You no doubt could tell there was something special about him when you had a conversation with him. When i heard the news about his death i was heartbroken, i will keep him in my thoughts and his family in my prayers.

Kevin, I can't imagine the pain and shock and despair. I know you guys just finished enjoying time back in the homeland with your parents. What a blessing to have had that time together as it was a rare occasion. Buddy, you have been through some very difficult times the last few years. You know as your friend I support you and lift you up in prayer for the strength to go on as your other boys will need you more now. Nicholas, I've only met you once, I've slept in your bed as your father is a very gracious man and gave me a place to stay while visiting. Actually, I stopped by another time when you were very little running around in a diaper so you wouldn't remember that. I pray that you are at peace and pain free.

Sympathies and Condolences,
Derek Smith
