Tribute & Message From The Family
Donald Ray Scafidel passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 62. He was born on Saturday, February 7, 1959 in Covington, Louisiana. He is the son of the late Cathleen and Elmore Scafidel. He was a resident of Hammond, Louisiana.
One of Donald's greatest joys was serving the community though the Natalbany Volunteer Fire Department (NVFD) which he joined when he was 16 years old. Donald was an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and a valued Charter Member of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club. Donald became Fire Chief of NVFD in January of 2021 after serving as Assistant Fire Chief for 29 years.
In addition to living a life of service to his community, Donald was a Maintenance Supervisor at Weyerhaeuser for 41 years. He was the epitome of a "jack of all trades." Anyone who knows Donald knows he loved sitting on the front porch of his camp. But, most of all, Donald loved spending time with his family.
Donald is survived by his wife of 41 years, Tammy Scafidel; children, Lacey Russell (Zack), Krista Neal (Ryan), Kyle Scafidel, and Logan Scafidel; grandchild, Riggins Russell; sister, Wanda Klahorst (Jeff); identical twin brother, Ronald Scafidel (Monica); many nieces, nephews, and other family members; and his beloved dog, Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elmore Scafidel and his mother, Cathleen Mount Scafidel.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Sunday, October 10, 2021, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The visitation will continue at the funeral home the following day, Monday, October 11, 2021, beginning at 9:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 11:00 AM.
Interment will follow in Briar Patch Cemetery, Loranger, Louisiana.

Being around Donald was always a fun and happy encounter. I will miss seeing Donald and Tammy at our EMS Conference. Donald always made it an enjoyable time with his stories and humor and the smile that he had every time I saw him. Donald will be sorely missed by me and a multitude of our EMS family. Rest In Peace my EMS/Fire and Christian brother. David Marcus, Paramedic, Educator, Firefighter
