Condolence & Memory Journal

I am honored and proud to have had Mr. Bodker as both my principal and first boss. I worked for him as a custodian from 1971-1974 while I attended Ponchatoula High. I am proud to claim him as my first of four Christian Mentors in my life. In him I saw strength, courage, and work ethic. For ever missed but never forgotten. Love Jim Smith, Graduated 1974.

Mr. Bodker was my principal at Ponchatoula High School. I was a Business, Mathematic, & Social Studies teacher at Ponchatoula High School for 14 years. He was the second principal I worked for; by far, the best I encountered during my 39 years working in 3 parishes. He left his imprint,of striving for excellence, on everyone who worked for him. Mr. Bodker will be sorely missed.

I met Mr. AJ while working in the Education department at Southeastern. I am so sorry to hear of his passing - he was an extraordinary man who did so much for our communities.

One of my favorite memories (along with his teaching eighth-grade Science, being in congregation when I've filled in at First Presbyterian, and later years table-sharing at Rotary) has to do with his knowledge of car mechanics.
I was trying out a vehicle and valued his opinion. He not only came over after Rotary meeting, looked under the hood, but CRAWLED UNDER the car to check thoroughly!
And that wasn't many years ago!

Lots of good memories of Pop (Bert) and Mr A.J. growing up. Those two friends always working on some projects in town or down the river.

He and Pop always trying to one up each other on what they caught on the trot line or in the lake.

I still have an old log splitter they built together from an ATT trencher. One supplied the trencher, one the Onan motor and a third the piston.

What a great life and an amazing man.

I regularly sat with A.J. at Ponchatoula Rotary meetings. He and I were "Birthday Buddies" and enjoyed the singing of the birthday song. A.J. was a favorite of many members, particularly the Ladies who often joined him at lunch. I will miss him and his friendly, wise and professional ways. You are now with your lovely wife, Colleen. who often joined you at Rotary activities.

God Bless you and your family. You will be long remembered as a friend and mentor to many.

My deepest sympathy at the loss of such a lovely man. My family and I have known him from high school days and I had the pleasure of seeing him again at many of the St. Tammany Parish School evaluations. He never forgot a face and always had a nice word for everyone. I will always remember his endearing smiles and many words of comfort and praise.

Peggy, David, Mellie and Carol,

Your dad was the best. We couldn't have asked for better next door neighbors down the river. He and your Mom were always so helpful and thoughtful. I always looked forward to going to the camp and spending time with them. Mr. AJ just had a way with us kids that put us at ease and felt respected right away. And he was funny too. I'll always remember Ed the time he and your mom came and invited Susan and I on a boat ride to look for a tree that had a bolt of lightning stuck in it. He will be missed.
