James Thomas "Tommy" Jackson, 91 years old of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away Monday, August 21, 2017, at North Oaks Medical Center.
Tommy was born on Wednesday, July 21, 1926, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. He was the long-time pharmacist and former owner of Jackson's Medi-Thrift Drug Store, serving as a pharmacist for almost 50 years. Tommy was a Deacon of Westside Baptist Church and a former Deacon of First Baptist Church. He served both churches as Chairman of the Deacons for many years and was a faithful Sunday School teacher for almost 50 years. Tommy was a longtime member of the Ponchatoula Rotary Club serving as Secretary for many years. He was presented the Distinguished Service Award in July 1996 in appreciation and recognition for "two decades" of dedicated and inspired service as Club Secretary. He was an early member and treasurer of the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce. He was named Volunteer of the Year in 1996. He and his wife Shirley just celebrated 70 years of marriage. He was loved by all who knew him.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley Ann Jackson; daughter, Shirley Edna Jackson Reitzell and her husband Samuel; son, Thomas Turner Jackson; sister, Jane Jackson Eames and her husband Don; grandchidren Michelle Ann Jackson, Matt Reitzell and his wife Lisa, Daniel Reitzell and his wife Tiffany, and Stephen Reitzell and his wife Jamie; great-grandchildren, Josie, Kylie, Jackson, Kennedy, Emma, Ella, Blake, Anderson and Leila Reitzell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Gussie Belle Jackson; and brothers, Sneed Allen Jackson and Robert Leslie Jackson
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Ponchatoula; and will continue on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Westside Baptist Church, 40375 W. I-55 Service Rd, Ponchatoula, Louisiana from 9:00 am until the service begins at 11:00 am
Interment will follow in the Ponchatoula Cemetery, Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
Family request contributions may be made to the Westside Baptist Church Building Fund.
