John Governale Jr. passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017, in Hammond, Louisiana at the age of 85. He was born on Tuesday, May 24, 1932 in Hammond, Louisiana to the late Rosa Michelli and the late John Governale Sr.. He was a resident of Tickfaw, Louisiana.

He entered the United States Air Force in June of 1952 and retired in June of 1972. At retirement he was an Air Operations supervisor and retired at the rank of Technical Sergeant. He served in South East Vietnam and received several medals including the Air Force good conduct medal (2 oak leaf clusters), the Air Force Commendation medal (4 oak leaf clusters) and the Air Force Meritorious service medal. After retiring from the Air Force, he began to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Hammond and retired in 1987.

John is survived by his friend, Ruby Hill; daughters, Sharon McDowell (Fiance', Matthew Bauers) and Sandra Bernard; sisters, Maryann (Pete) Adamo, Rosalie (Mike) Delaughter; brother, Patrick Governale; granddaughter, Heather (Tommy) Price; grandson, Joshua Bernard; great-grandsons, Brody and Baylor Bernard; great-granddaughter, Dawson Bernard.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia "Jean" Musacchia Governale; his parents John and Rosa Governale; brother, Angelo (Josephine) Governale; six sisters, Jenny (Joe) Lewis, Frances (Manuel) Lewis, Josie (Tony) Schiro, Angelina (Tony) Adamo, Little Margaret Governale, and Margaret (Dominick) Fresina.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the funeral home chapel and continue from 9:00 am until service time at 11:30 am on Thursday September 14, 2017.

Interment will follow in Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Cemetery.
